Introduction


Urban Planning incorporates many different elements of life and living.  Each element deals with a certain type of land usage.


For the purpose of consistency and coordination within the planning departments, each type of land use must be represented on land use maps.


These elements are divided into eight major land use categories:

  1. Residential

  2. Retail Business

  3. Transportation, Utilities, communications

  4. Industry and related uses

  5. Wholesale and related uses

  6. Public buildings and open spaces

  7. Institutional buildings and areas

  8. Vacant or non-urban uses


These elements of urban planning are the city's infrastructure.
