Migration Two: To The Outer City

As the city became more crowded, it became less desirable to live there. This lead to the pursuit of "greener pastures" elsewhere.  The greener pastures were back to the rural areas that had been abandoned generations earlier.

The goal was now to get enough money to move out of the city. The affordability of the automobile enabled more people to move to the outer city and build homes. These new outer cities became known as suburbs and the city became known as the inner city.

The move to the suburbs took not only the people away from the city, but also its economic base. It is migration two which plays a major role in the need for urban redevelopment.
