Forms of Community Involvement

Community involvement can take three different forms: negative involvement, no involvement, and over-involvement.

  • Negative involvement: poor housing and deteriorating housing, removal of viable income producing establishments from the neighborhood, and increased neighborhood crime rates.

  • No Involvement: Let's city planners to have sole discretion in determining the direction and tone of the neighborhood or for gangs to set up a base of operations and control the neighborhood.

  • Over-involvement: Lack of concerned for the overall good of the city.  Gives the impression that it is a self seeking and self absorbed neighborhood.
